WOKING ATHLETIC CLUB

Who better to feature next than one of our long-standing members — and a familiar face across both cross country and road races, Hennie.
Hennie first joined Woking AC at the age of nine, when her dad “dragged me along to yet another sports club” — and she hasn’t looked back since. She started out as a 400m hurdler, but these days prefers the rhythm and headspace of cross country and road running. “It’s a lot less stressful and more enjoyable being in my thoughts, around others from the club.”
Running with Woking AC has given her everything from confidence and purpose to lasting friendships. She loves the group camaraderie, especially on dark winter runs — and she’s already eyeing up the Manchester Marathon in April 2026.
“Training with so many talented runners pushes me to be better — but it never feels competitive in the wrong way. Everyone’s so supportive, and that makes every run more enjoyable.”
Some standout moments? Helping the women’s team earn promotion to Division 1 in the Surrey Cross Country League last season, and being part of the winning team at the Wedding Day 7k — a highlight of the road league (made extra special when clubmates Gamble and Georgie won the couples race the night before their actual wedding!).
After races, you’ll often find her at The Sovereigns for a well-earned debrief and chat with clubmates — young and old alike.
Fun facts: she once became Surrey 400m Hurdles Champion simply because no one else turned up that day (we’re sure she’d have won anyway! 😉)… and she’s the face of the 2026 Surrey Half Marathon! 🏅
💬 Brilliant stuff — thanks Hennie for sharing your story and flying the green and orange with pride!
